In 2015, I got kicked out of my best friend Andy's 4th of July party for complaining I didn't have a girlfriend. Andy said to me, "well you're not going to find anyone here", so I drove back to Chicago and attended my buddy Art's rooftop party. While hiding in the corner with my friend Chris, Tess and her friend Kelly came up to pet Mack, the handsome Bernese Mountain Dog who was at our feet.

I had recently moved to Chicago and my brother, Collin, was visiting for July 4th. My plans fell through twice that day. Third time was a charm when I reached out to Kelly, a new friend I’d made at a Cubs game a few weeks before. Kelly was attending her friend's coworker's rooftop party in Wicker Park and invited us to join.

Tess and Kelly were more interested in Mack at this point, but I noticed Tess’ Chicago skyline necklace and complimented her on her good taste. As she walked away I turned to Chris and told him, “I’m going to marry that girl”…

And here we are 9 years, 5 addresses, a dog and Lily later, and Zack’s affirmation is about to come true! Later at the rooftop party, I infamously teased Zack that he wasn’t my type, but now we all know that was a lie. Our love continues to grow, and we feel incredibly blessed to be where we are today!
